sarebamail agent
The agent notifies you of new mail, chat messages and calls, even when no browser window with sarebamail is open – on Windows in the notification area next to the clock, on macOS in the menu bar, on Linux in the desktop panel. Clicking a notification opens sarebamail in the browser.
Current version 1.0.0.157· released on 3 November 2026
Windows
Download and start the file: it is the sareba Installer with the sarebamail agent already selected – click “Install”. The installer checks signature and checksum, the agent sets itself up in your user folder, starts with Windows from then on and opens the setup assistant in your browser. After that it updates itself.
Without installer: the program itself

Every new version is a new file – Windows SmartScreen may therefore at first report it as “not commonly downloaded”. The installer stays the same file across many versions.

Download and open the zip file, then start “sarebamail-agent”. The agent places itself in “Applications” in your user folder, opens at login from then on and opens the setup assistant in your browser. If macOS asks whether the agent may send notifications, please allow it.
macOS 13 or later. No administrator rights needed. Checked by Apple.
Linux
Packages for Debian and Ubuntu, Fedora and RHEL, and Arch Linux, each for x64 and ARM. The agent installs new versions itself every hour (systemd timer from the package); with the sareba package repository they also arrive with the other system updates.

A desktop environment with notifications and panel icons (StatusNotifierItem), such as KDE Plasma, Xfce or Cinnamon; on GNOME with the “AppIndicator and KStatusNotifierItem Support” extension. Whether notifications show buttons depends on the desktop. The agent’s access token is stored in the desktop keyring (Secret Service), without one in a file only your user account can read.
With the sareba Installer
One program for all sareba programs: it downloads the agent from updates.sareba.com, checks signature and checksum, installs it and keeps it up to date. The agent is already selected.
Setup
- Download and start the agent as described above for your system.
- On first start the setup assistant opens in your browser, and the agent shows a code.
- Sign in if needed, check the code and click “Pair”.
- Done: your computer shows “Device paired – notifications are on”.
What the agent notifies you of
- New mail in the inboxes that belong to “All inboxes” – with the sender only, never subject or text. Spam is not reported. New mail appears with a delay of up to one minute.
- New chat messages – only “Message from …”, never the content.
- Incoming calls with “Answer” and “Decline”. The call is answered in the browser.
- While the agent is running, you count as reachable for calls, even without an open browser window.
- The icon menu lets you mute notifications for an hour or until the next morning.
Disconnect and remove
Under Settings → Devices you see all paired devices and can disconnect each one; the device then receives no more notifications. In the agent itself, switch off start at login (“Start with Windows”, “Open at login” or “Start at login”) and choose “Quit”; on Linux, then remove the package. “Sign out everywhere” in administration also disconnects all devices.
